Jerry's tactic is to set up a trap to wake up the sleeping Tyke and blame Tom for everything. It happened million times before. Jerry bothers Spike and his son Tyke but he makes it look like Tom's fault, so in the end Tom is getting beaten up for something he didn't do. I feel sorry for poor tom cat. "Musical Stairs" is not a game in classic way. It's just about you playing around with various items that Tom is going to trip off while falling down the stairs. Each of 24 items makes different sound. It's funny to watch and listen to poor Tom rolling over and bumping his head on each and every stair step.

To show you what happens when Spyke gets to Tom, I've made a video compilation of short cartoon scraps where we can see how Spyke beats Tom. Sometimes Tom deserved it, but mostly it was Jerry's trick.
